Hey There! 😊

“Where can we fish?” This is a common question we receive in our office. Fannin County has earned the title of Trout Capital of Georgia, boasting over 550 miles of trout waters. While various types of trout inhabit our waters, you’re most likely to encounter Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. I remember fishing with my dad in creeks as a child, and he always seemed to catch fish. These days, however, the fish have become smarter and more elusive! They are certainly still there, but you’ll want to put some effort into researching the best bait to use.

If you want to almost guarantee a trout catch, I recommend utilizing one of the many guided fishing services in our area. However, if you prefer to take your chances and fish for fun, here are a few local spots:

  1. Tammen Park (Lower Toccoa River):

Located directly below the dam on Lake Blue Ridge, Tammen Park sits at the mouth of the lower section of the Toccoa River. This spot offers excellent fly fishing and conventional fishing, especially for rainbow trout! It’s a fantastic place for the entire family; after fishing, the kids can play in the park and enjoy a picnic. This is a public fishing area with no fee required, but a Georgia-issued fishing license is necessary to fish legally. Since this area is below the dam, the water level is subject to change. Call 1-800-238-2264 in advance for water release information.

  1. Horseshoe Bend Park (Lower Toccoa River):

Horseshoe Bend Park is an ideal location for a day of fishing and family fun. The park offers several easy access points to the river for both conventional and fly fishing. It also features three pavilions, a gazebo, restrooms, two playgrounds, horseshoe pits, volleyball nets, and more. This particular section of the lower Toccoa River is stocked, and rainbow trout are plentiful. Cast a line and soak in the beautiful surroundings of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This is a public fishing area with no fee required, but a Georgia-issued fishing license is necessary to fish legally. Call 1-800-238-2264 in advance for water release information.

  1. Toccoa River Swinging Bridge (Upper Toccoa River):

Take the family on a short, relaxing hike to the legendary Toccoa River Swinging Bridge. There’s ample room by the river for kids to play in the water and enjoy a peaceful picnic by the rapids! The Swinging Bridge is a 270-foot suspension bridge over the Toccoa River, accessible via the Benton MacKaye Trail and the Duncan Ridge National Recreational Trail in Fannin County. The river access here is easy and gentle. The river is wide in this section, making it a great place to fish above the dam. Just keep in mind that there will be swimmers if the weather is warm, so the cooler months would be a better time to take advantage of this location. A Georgia-issued fishing license is required to fish legally.

We also have several cabins located on Fightingtown Creek, another designated trout stream in our area.
