Hey There! 😊
The daffodils and peach trees are blooming, so we know Spring has arrived! One of my favorite things to do as a child was gather “Easter Flowers” when they emerged from the ground. The sweet smell still takes me back to those days! This is one of the most beautiful seasons here in Blue Ridge. It’s time to get outside and enjoy some of the adventures that our area has to offer. I know that when you are traveling with kids, you are always looking for activities and things to keep them busy. Here are five of my (and my kids’) favorite things to do in Blue Ridge with children:
- The Lilly Pad Village:
This is the best place to take kids fishing, since the pond is stocked and they provide all the gear. Also, the mini golf course is unique, literally set in the woods! This cool place also offers gem mining, and kids of all ages love finding treasures! It’s a great shaded spot to simply enjoy time together, and maybe your little one will catch their first fish!
- Swan Drive-in Theater:
This theater, affectionately called “The drive-in” by locals, has been part of our community for generations. I have very fond childhood memories of sitting in the back of a truck, watching movies and listening to the sound from the speaker poles at each spot. Although the drive-in has been upgraded in recent years to a digital screen and FM radio for sound, the nostalgia remains strong.
- Toccoa Swinging Bridge:
Even having lived here my entire life, I am still blown away every time I visit this amazing spot! The suspension bridge is a bit out of town, but the reward is worth the trip once you get there. I suggest taking a picnic to enjoy on the riverbank. The walk to the bridge is not too steep and not too far from the parking area, making this the perfect hike for kids!
- Blue Ridge Scenic Railway:
This awesome passenger train, located right in the center of downtown Blue Ridge, offers trips on open-air cars or enclosed coach cars. The trip is about 1 hour from downtown Blue Ridge, crossing the state line into Tennessee. Then, you have 1.5 hours to explore the twin cities of Copperhill, TN, and McCaysville, GA. The train has recently added rail cars that utilize a different part of the tracks—imagine a paddle boat, but on railroad tracks!
- Mountain Top Explorer Scavenger Hunt:
To make your cabin stay even more adventurous, we’ve curated a fun scavenger hunt designed to get kids outside and exploring! We understand that little explorers love collecting treasures, so the provided container is just the right size for the small items on the list, ensuring they can bring home a piece of their Blue Ridge adventure without taking up too much space.
These are just a few things you might do with your kids while visiting our cabins and our area. The cabins themselves offer so many activities that the kids may just want to stay and relax near the creeks or the fire pits! I envision lots of laughs, giggles, and smiles when you bring your kids to the mountains.
Until next time… enjoy the flowers!
